The region and its history

The region is extremely rich in ancient and contemporary history.
Between Bayeux and Caen, the Bessin has seen two major events in its history, the influence of William the Conqueror and the Allied landings (D.DAY).
Throughout the visits in the region, these two stages are almost visible in all the villages.
In Caen, we find William's castle, as in Falaise, as well as the Ladies' Abbey of Caen and the Church of Saint Gilles initiated by Queen Matilda, and the Men's Abbey of Caen and its Church of Saint Stephen initiated by William the Conqueror. And in many communes, Commonwealth cemeteries where the combatants of all nationalities who took part in this impressive military operation can be found.
